Metea Valley opens theater season with 'Figments' Nov. 7-9

"Figments" will take center stage at Metea Valley High when the Aurora school opens its 2019-2020 theater season.

Performances are at 7 p.m. Thursday to Saturday, Nov. 7-9, in the auditorium at 1801 N. Eola Road.

Tickets are $8 or $5 for students and seniors and can be purchased online at www.meteamusic.org/theater or at the door beginning at 6 p.m. prior to the performance.

"Figments" is about Rick Jacobs, a playwright with a wild imagination. He is struggling with a terrible case of writer's block as he attempts to write his next murder mystery while his thoughts are constantly interrupted by the upstairs tenant, Loni, who he is secretly in love with, his overbearing mother, a former girlfriend and a dead father.

As Rick's thoughts bounce between his frustrating love life and his play, the real people and the figments of his imagination come together and clash in hilarious combinations.

"'Figments' follows a character that we all can relate to, someone who struggles to find the right words to say, or knows what words to say, but can't say it," said Matt Wolski, Metea assistant theater program director. "The script itself is both sincere and ludicrous, heartfelt at times and utterly ridiculous at others. This production really showcases the abilities of our actors on all levels, who are extremely talented and such a pleasure to work with. The humor is a real tip-of-the-hat to those like Mel Brooks and Woody Allen, whose humor really influenced a generation of writers. I have no doubt the audience will get caughtup with our students' high energy performance."

"Figments" will be performed by a cast of 14 actors.
