New Adler Center exhibition features printmakers

The David Adler Music and Arts Center's Gallery Series will present "Altered States," a new exhibition featuring seven regional printmakers using new techniques in an old-fashioned medium. The show will run Nov. 1 to Dec. 14.

While traditional printmakers produce a numbered series of identical images, the artists in this "Altered States" exhibit are pushing the boundaries of the medium as they alter each print in a unique way.

"These artists have gone rogue," Adler member artist Beth McKenna said. "They're exploring different ways an image might be rendered. The alterations may involve variations in color and inks, the layering of images. Even collage and multimedia can be incorporated."

The hand-pulled prints marry the artists' traditionally-honed printmaking skills with the creative freedom to experiment and produce unique works of fine art. "Altered States" will feature work by Cary Cochrane, Linny Coale Freeman, Robert Klunk, Tyler Krasowski, Heather Green Lowery and Beth McKenna.

See "Altered States" at the David Adler Music and Arts Center, 1700 N. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville. Open gallery hours are 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturdays. Two special meet-the-artists events will also be held:

• Opening reception: 6-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1. The Adler Center launches the Gallery Series with live music, wine and refreshments. Free admission.

• Gallery Talk: 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20. See the exhibit through the eyes of the artists. The collective of artists will lead a gallery tour of their work and share stories about their creative processes. Free admission.
