Defenders to host Green Screen Film Series Oct. 28

The Environmental Defenders of McHenry County invites the public to its new Green Screen Environmental Documentary Film Series.

The 2015 film "Tomorrow" by French filmmakers Cyril Dion and Mélanie Laurent will be shown at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28, at the Luecht Conference Center, Building B, at McHenry County College, 8900 Route 14 in Crystal Lake. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

The movie is about 2 hours. There will be brief discussion to follow. The event is free to the public, but donations appreciated.

The filmmakers travel worldwide to investigate concrete solutions to today's challenges. Optimistically, it identifies initiatives that have proved themselves in 10 countries around the world: concrete examples of solutions to environmental and social challenges of the 21st century, be it agriculture, energy, economy, education and governance.

"Tomorrow" is not just a film; it is the beginning of a movement seeking to encourage local communities around the world to change the way they live for the sake of our planet. "Start small to grow big, and write a new story for the generations to come."

Thought-provoking, inspiring, and educational, the Green Screen Environmental Documentary Film Series offers a reminder on why you do what you do. Some will have a global focus, while others will feature issues connected more to the local scene. A short discussion will follow each movie. Panelists will be invited to participate for some films.

The co-sponsors are: Environmental Defenders of McHenry County's Education Committee and McHenry County College Sustainability Center.

The Environmental Defenders helps educate the public on environmental issues, in part, through free screenings of documentary films. Founded in 1970, The Environmental Defenders of McHenry County is a nonprofit, grass-roots membership organization dedicated to the preservation and improvement of the environment in McHenry County.
