Bartlett VFW Auxiliary 11018 helps brightens our troops holidays

The Auxiliary to Bartlett Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 11018 initiated a collection for our troops.

They are very appreciative of the Bartlett Public Library District who provided assistance.

The auxiliary personally gave library patrons a suggested list at the library. Plus, there was a collection box there for almost the whole month of September where members of the community placed items for the military.

The Bartlett Auxiliary and VFW Post have been supporting the needs of our troops for many years through Operation Support Our Troops-America.

This collection was for Christmas stockings to be sent to the military, but they have also gone to pack comfort boxes which are sent to current military as well.

The auxiliary is proud to say that the community was more than generous, with 523 pounds of items collected.

This is the second year in a row this collection has taken place. Last year, the collection came to 356 pounds.

On Oct. 19 in Lisle, volunteers were able to stuff Christmas stockings with some of the collected items. Members of the community also sewed stockings.

Operation Support Our Troops-America will send 8,000 stockings this year alone!

If you are interested in finding out how you can help the auxiliary help veterans and troops, email BartlettVFWAux@gmail.com or call Rochelle at (630) 373-0422.

The auxiliary meets the second Thursday of the month. They would welcome the opportunity to explain how else they assist veterans and current service members. Their efforts help others who have given so much and they get so much satisfaction doing whatever they can.

The upcoming holidays will be brighter for the armed forces by receiving one of these Christmas stockings.
