Author Susan Miura to sign books at Bloomingdale Barnes and Noble

Author Susan Miura will meet with shoppers and sign her young adult novels, "Shards of Light" and "Healer," from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, at Barnes and Noble, 200 S. Gary Ave. in Bloomingdale.

Miura is the author of three novels and one children's poetry book, along with several short stories.

During the two-hour signing period, Miura will have giveaways including Italian candy to celebrate Italian Heritage Month.

"I'm looking forward to meeting fellow book-lovers at this beautiful store and will happily answer questions about writing, getting published, and my books, of course," Miura said. "Since I'm an Italian-American author and Shards of Light is set in Sicily, I thought it would be fun to celebrate by handing out Italian candy."

"Shards of Light" is book two in the "Healer" series and is told from the perspectives of two 17-year-old girls: Shilo Giannelli and Melody Yasmeen O'Hara. While Shilo spends the summer in Sicily in hopes of unraveling the mysteries of her healing power, Melody suffers a terrible accident that derails her dreams of becoming a professional ballerina. Themes and issues in the book include adoption, human trafficking, depression, romance, humor, faith, miracles and courage.
