Hawthorn Elementary South celebrates Blue Ribbon designation

Dozens of Hawthorn District 73 teachers, board members and administrators attended a breakfast Oct. 4 in recognition of Hawthorn Elementary South's designation as a National Blue Ribbon School.

This is the first time that Elementary South, one of seven schools belonging to Hawthorn School District 73 in Vernon Hills, has received this award.

The school received the honor in the Exemplary High Performing school category.

The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private elementary, middle and high schools where students perform at very high levels, or where significant progress has been made in raising student achievement.

Hawthorn Elementary South, a kindergarten through fifth-grade school serving approximately 700 students, is among 25 elementary, middle and high schools in Illinois to be named a 2019 National Blue Ribbon School.
