Fremont School District 79 Alum Appears on NBC's 'The Voice'

If at first you don't succeed, try, try, try again. The old adage held true for Fremont School District 79 alum Lauren Hall. After auditioning for the hit NBC television show "The Voice" for the seventh time, Hall, a 2008 graduate of Fremont Middle School, finally made it through to the Blind Audition round in an episode that aired Monday, October 7.

Hall performed the song "One and Only" for judges John Legend, Kelly Clarkson, Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton. Clarkson quickly gave Hall a chair turn, selecting her to join her team.

During her time at FSD79, Hall developed her love of singing and performing by appearing as Polly, the lead role in the Fremont Middle School musical "Charleston." Fremont music and drama teacher Stacey Begg, who serves as the director of the school's annual musical, has regularly kept in touch with Hall throughout the years and is thrilled to see her earn the opportunity.

"I think the thing that stands out about Lauren is she is incredibly positive," Begg said. "She's very likable and is friendly with everybody. When she was the lead in the musical here, she just shined on stage. In 8th grade you never know, but I think that's where she got the performing bug. It makes me very proud that perhaps I played a small role in helping give her that confidence in the very beginning to perform. Now to see her take it and fly with it and try to make it in the business...it's just so exciting."

Hall is able to trace her passion for performing back to that very first time that she took the stage while as a student at Fremont Middle School.

"My first experience on stage at Fremont is what showed me that this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life," Hall said. "I remember feeling more alive than I have ever felt in my life. It's where I first discovered my love for performing, and the first time where I truly faced my stage fright."

"The Voice" airs Monday and Tuesday nights at 7 p.m. CT on NBC 5 Chicago.
