During the 2018-19 school year, along with other accomplished music students across the United States and overseas in military base schools, Bailey Cates from Kaneland High School in Maple Park practiced with dedication to advance to their respective district and state ensembles.

Through this audition process, Bailey earned the role of principal trumpet in the Illinois Music Educators Association District 9 Symphony Orchestra in November 2018, followed by an additional audition to the ILMEA All-State Honors Orchestra in January 2019 in Peoria.

Through a subsequent video audition, application and acceptance, Bailey Cates will join the "best of the best" for the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) 2019 All-National Honor Ensembles Nov. 7-10 at the Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center in Orlando, Florida, representing the Kaneland band department, in the NAfME All-National Honor Symphony Orchestra.

She is a previous member of the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra from 2014-2018, a two-year member of the EYSO Honors Chamber Music Ensemble the "Sterling Brass Quintet (2016-2018), and was the winner of the 2018-2019 EYSO Young Artist Concerto Competition, performing as a featured soloist the "Concerto for Trumpet in A-flat Major", by Alexander Arutunian.

Bailey is a two-year ILMEA District 9 and All-State Musician in the areas of both Orchestra and Jazz: ILMEA All-State Honors Orchestra, Cornet 2 (2019); ILMEA District 9 Orchestra, Principal Trumpet (2018); ILMEA All-State Jazz Band, Lead Trumpet (2018); and, ILMEA District 9 Jazz Band, Lead/Lead & Second Trumpet (2018 and 2017, respectively). Aaron Puckett is the director of the Kaneland band department.

Bailey desires to pursue a career in trumpet performance, with a secondary focus in both conducting and music education, as she has a strong passion to share her love of trumpet and music with future generations.
