A Celebration of Autumn for the Whole Family at Palatine Park District's Fall Festival

Palatine Park District presents the 22nd annual Fall Festival from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at Palatine Stables, 1510 W. Northwest Hwy.

This family-friendly event includes a variety of fall activities for the entire family. Admission and parking are free; fees apply for some activities and pets are not allowed.

Activities include a petting zoo, wagon rides, pony rides, make-and-take crafts, riding demonstrations by the Palatine Stables Show Team, a kid's zone with bounce houses and train rides, games, seasonal craft vendors, sponsor booths and live entertainment.

The Meadowlark Stage will offer free entertainment throughout the day, including concerts by Miss Jamie's Farm and Mr. Singer & The Sharp Cookies. Concessions will be available for purchase from Palatine Park District's Stableside Café, including Morkes Chocolates, Chick-fil-A Kildeer, and Pizza Bella.

The sixth annual Scarecrow Contest will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. For $5, participants will be given a Scarecrow frame, a small burlap sack, and a bag of straw. Additional clothing and decorating items will be available as well while supplies last, or decorations and clothing can be brought to the event. Awards will be announced at 3:30 p.m., and prizes will be awarded for the first-, second- and third-place scarecrows.

In the event of inclement weather, some activities will be moved into the barns.

This year's Fall Festival has been made possible through partnerships with a variety of community businesses including Presenting Sponsor: Andigo Credit Union. Palatine Stables is a facility of Palatine Park District providing training, lessons, and boarding services. The safety-oriented program focuses on all areas of horsemanship, and the variety of well-trained school horses can accommodate all levels of riding.

Lessons are offered from introductory through the advanced hunter-jumper levels. Options include group lessons, introduction to horsemanship, and little riders introduction to horsemanship for ages 4 to 6. Pony rides and pony parties are also popular options at Palatine Stables. During the summer months, a variety of horsemanship and pony camps are offered and Palatine Stables is also home to a Show Team.
