'Kid Heroes' raise money for new Lines playground

In August, the Arnett C. Lines Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) announced a Powered by Play "Fun"-Raising initiative to benefit the Lines Playground project.

The PTO set a lofty goal of $40,000 to be raised by the end of September. The PTO is more than halfway to this September goal, thanks in part to support from Lines students.

"Our Lines students are exceeding all of our expectations," said Madeleine Roberts, Lines PTO president. "From lemonade stands and baked goods to collecting chore money and spare change, the kids have pulled together to donate almost 10% of the funds raised so far."

Students who participate in raising any amount of playground funds will be recognized on a special donor sign as "Kid Heroes."

With the September fundraising drive more than halfway to its $40,000 goal, the Lines PTO is excited to announce that the entire fundraising effort is nearly 60% of the way to the $130,000 goal for the year.

"The Lines community has been very generous and supportive of our playground efforts," said Sarah Collins, vice president of fundraising for the Lines PTO. "We still have a ways to go, but everyone has been energized by the generosity of our community."

In addition to private donations from current Lines families, the Lines PTO is hoping to generate interest from businesses, organizations and families in the Barrington area that have ties to Lines Elementary School.

"We are proud to be celebrating our 50th anniversary this year," said Dr. Kenneth Hyllberg, Lines principal. "Funding a new playground for the next generation of Lines Lions is a great way to kick off our next 50 years."

Arnett C. Lines Elementary School is in Barrington. The current playground was installed in 1999. After 20 years of rigorous use, the current playground is ready for replacement.
