Buffalo Grove Rotary Club Seeks Area Exchange Students for Travel Abroad

For young people who have dreamed of visiting another country and learning about new cultures - in addition to making new friends and learning new languages - the Buffalo Grove Rotary Club Youth Exchange Program has just the answer!

Applications are now being taken for students ages 15 ½ to 18 ½ who attend area high schools for outbound exchanges in 2020. Short- and long-term exchanges are available. Short-term exchanges occur in the summer and last roughly six weeks; long-term exchanges are approximately 11 months and begin and end in July or August, depending on arrangements made by the student's high school.

Students have a wide selection of counties to do their exchanges in; a large majority of countries throughout the world participate, with the exception of Australia, Canada, China, the UK, and any country deemed unsafe by the federal government.

The Buffalo Grove Rotary Club sponsors the exchange students, and provides room, board, tuition and a monthly stipend as part of the exchange program.

"We invite our local students to take advantage of this one-in-a-lifetime opportunity to broaden their horizons and to become a 'global citizen'," said Jing O'Brien, Youth Exchange Officer for the Buffalo Grove Rotary Club. "The experiences young people have during these exchanges not only help them to grow personally, but also allow them to better understand the world and how they fit into it."

For questions, or to request an application to participate in an outbound exchange sponsored by the Buffalo Grove Rotary Club, please contact Jing O'Brien at exchange@bgrotary.com.
