Palatine Jaycees to host Fit Family Field Day Sept. 21

In the fifth year of their Healthy Family Initiative, the Palatine Jaycees are hosting Fit Family Field Day, rain or shine, on Saturday, September 21st from 12:00 pm until 2:30 pm at Falcon Park Recreation Center located at 2195 N. Hicks Rd, Palatine.

Fit Family Field Day will teach families fun and economical ways to keep their families fit and active. Clinics will be set up with multiple stations demonstrating different physical activities, such as soccer, hockey, yoga and baseball. There will be give-a-ways and prizes will be available for children to win when they visit the different activity stations.

"Fit Family Field Day is a fun way for the entire family to learn new ways to work together to stay healthy," said Megan O'Brien, project co-chair. "Come out to enjoy a day of family fitness and nutrition education," said Shelby Hayes, project co-chair.

To put on this event, the Jaycees have teamed up with area businesses, sport clubs and non-profits. The goal of this event is to educate Palatine families on local resources focused on nutrition and physical activity. The project, developed by the chapter's Active Citizen Framework Committee, researched issues currently facing Palatine residents. The committee learned that obesity, particularly among children and teens, is not only a national "hot topic," but also affects families in Palatine.

"Good health is the foundation of a successful community," said Ryan Lew, project co-chair. Family Field is free for families and the activities are targeted to children six to 12 years of age. Activity stations will be set up both indoors and outdoors at the Palatine Park District's Falcon Park Recreation Center in north Palatine.
