Palatine church collects items for homeless shelter

On Sunday, Sept. 8, the congregation of Christ Lutheran Church, Palatine, participated in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America's God's Work/Our Hands initiative.

Congregation members formed teams and went out into the neighborhood to collect items for Journeys | The Road Home. Journeys provides food, shelter and the help needed for the homeless in Palatine to become independent.

They also coordinate the PADS program, which provides food and overnight shelter to the homeless. Christ Lutheran Church is one of the PADS sites.

A God's Work/Our Hands volunteer stated, "At a time when there is so much divisiveness and hatred in the world, it was refreshing to experience firsthand the generosity and kindness of the people we visited on our scavenger hunt."
