'Harvest Against Hunger' event to raise funds for food-insecure families Sept. 28

The GardenWorks Project invites the public to attend its annual fundraiser, "Harvest Against Hunger," from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, in the Homeland Security Education Center at the College of DuPage, 425 Fawell Blvd. in Glen Ellyn.

The 501(c)(3) nonprofit works to reduce hunger in the western Chicago suburbs by providing families in need the resources to grow food at home.

The event will celebrate the season's harvest for the GardenWorks Project.

"We built 101 home vegetable gardens for food insecure families this spring, providing 415 individuals access to a home vegetable garden. Hunger can isolate and shame, and our programs try to bring dignity and empowerment back to the family's table through nutrition promotion and access to healthy food," said Jeannie Iseman, executive director of The GardenWorks Project. "Harvest Against Hunger will highlight not only the organization's successes, but also celebrate the harvest with seasonal food and drink created by COD's highly regarded culinary and mixology team."

The event also will provide guests the opportunity to tour the sustainable agriculture farm, a demonstration garden used by COD's horticulture students.

In addition, Nichols Farm will be highlighted in the seasonal menu, using locally farmed produce the small plate fare that is creatively made by COD culinary staff and students.

Tickets are $50 and all proceeds will support programs that help fight hunger in our neighborhoods.
