Fifth annual 'Clear the Shelters' event set for Aug. 17 in Aurora

Aurora Animal Care and Control, along with animal shelters across the country, is collaborating with NBC and Telemundo stations to find loving homes for pets in need during the fifth annual "Clear the Shelters" event.

The event will be 11 am.to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, at its facility at 600 S. River St.

As part of the one-day adoption drive, all adoption fees are waived for dogs and cats, age 6 months or older.

"We encourage people to come out and see what wonderful animals are available," said Anna Payton, Aurora Animal Care and Control manager. "We have a variety of dog and cats of all breeds and personalities. We are confident we can help you find your next furry family member."

The goal is to "clear the shelters" by finding forever homes for as many animals as possible. More than 1,000 shelters across the country are joining the one-day adoption drive.

Although fees are waived, all other adoption requirements apply. All members of the household must meet the new pet prior to the adoption being finalized.
