CLC student receives $12,000 transfer scholarship

A College of Lake County student has been awarded a $12,000 Chicagoland Transfer Award scholarship from Columbia College Chicago.

Jennifer Pollack, a Buffalo Grove resident, received the scholarship after attaining at least a 3.0 grade-point average at CLC and submitting an essay.

More than 70 students from 21 community colleges applied for the award, which provides 10, $12,000 scholarships and one full-tuition scholarship to students transferring from Chicago-area community colleges to Columbia.

This is the second year Columbia has offered the merit-based scholarships.

Pollack has attended CLC part time since 2018 and will begin at Columbia in the fall as a graphic design major.

"It's a great honor to receive this scholarship," she said. "My education at CLC has prepared me for success at Columbia. At CLC, I challenged myself by taking some classes that were outside of my comfort zone. In a speech course, I learned to confront my fear of public speaking. Through a digital photography class, I learned an art form that meshes well with my graphic design career.

"At Columbia, I am really looking forward to taking graphic design classes that will bring me closer to my career goal, which is to work full time as a graphic designer and also operate my own art business, selling my own paintings."

Fall classes begin Aug. 19. For information about courses and how to apply and enroll, visit www.clcillinois.edu/fall.
