See 'Life Before the Great War' exhibit in Libertyville

The Libertyville-Mundelein Historical Society presents "Life Before the Great War," a historic photograph exhibit hosted by the David Adler Music & Arts Center and sponsored by the Dan Timm Group of Baird & Warner.

The Libertyville-Mundelein Historical Society collection contains many photographs and postcards of Libertyville buildings, but rarely are there any people present in them. While one can see what Libertyville looked like, it is difficult to feel what Libertyville was like 100 years ago.

"Life Before the Great War" presents a selection of images taken by an amateur photographer walking down Milwaukee Avenue, circa 1915. The photographs convey a sense of movement, activity - of life - before the beginning of World War I.

"To see Libertyville residents going about their daily life, working, shopping, and playing in the downtown area highlights what has changed and what has stayed the same over the past hundred years," Libertyville-Mundelein Historical Society board member Heather Johnson said.

Exhibit hours are 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, through Aug. 29, at the David Adler Music & Arts Center, 1700 N. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville.

Founded in 1955, the Libertyville-Mundelein Historical Society exists to "discover, study, discuss, collect, and preserve information and materials relative to the history of the community."
