Library takes story times to the park

Vernon Area Public Library takes its popular story times to area parks during the warm weather, to take advantage of the natural beauty of local green space and get out in the community. Patrons have been invited to bring their children ages 0 to 6, along with their picnic lunches, for stories, songs and play at three different locations near the Lincolnshire library.

Though the first event, slated for June 28 at Vernon Hill's Grosse Pointe Park, was rained out and moved to the library's meeting room, turnout was strong and participants enjoyed their indoor picnic along with interactive storytelling to engage tots.

The second story time, on July 26, took place at Half Day Forest Preserve in Vernon Hills. The weather cooperated and the library joined forces with the forest preserve to give kids a chance to learn from a naturalist about worms and other creatures that make up the local ecosystem.

The last of the three story times is scheduled for Friday, August 16, 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., at Twin Creeks Park, 401 Aptakisic Rd., Buffalo Grove. The program is free and open to children ages 0 to 6 with an adult. Siblings are welcome. No registration is required. Please bring a picnic lunch. In case of inclement weather, the program will take place at Vernon Area Public Library, 300 Olde Half Day Rd., Lincolnshire. Check https://calendar.vapld.info for updates.
