Meet 'Golden Age' gossip columnist at Mt. Prospect event

The so-called "Golden Age" of Hollywood, which ran from the late 1920s to the early 1960s, captivated the interest and imagination of millions of people.

The scintillating stories and scandals of the actors and actresses from this time will be the topic when the Mount Prospect Historical Society hosts historic interpreter Martina Mathisen.

Mathisen, of Edu-Tainment Living History, portrays Luella Parsons, Hollywood's most dynamic gossip columnist, at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at Central School, 103 S. Maple St., Mount Prospect. Known as the "Queen of Hollywood," Luella could make or break a career with a few taps on her typewriter.

While sipping tea and enjoying light refreshments during this presentation, you will be transported to old Hollywood as you hear about the triumphs and transgressions of some of the era's biggest stars - Clark Gable, Bette Davis, Rita Hayworth and more - right from the time-traveling gossip columnist herself.

Mathisen is known for her dramatic presentations that explore historical characters by bringing them to life through fully costumed, interpretations.

Tickets are $12 per person. Reservations must be made in advance. To register, visit www.mtphist.org to pay through PayPal, or call the office at (847) 392-9006.

The Mount Prospect Historical Society is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization that is committed to preserving the history of Mount Prospect through artifacts, photographs and both oral and written memories of current and former residents and businesspeople.

On its campus, in the heart of the village, the society maintains the 1906 Dietrich Friedrichs house museum, carriage house, the ADA-accessible Dolores Haugh Education Center and the 1896 one-room Central School, which was moved to the museum campus in 2008.
