Angel Melendez & The 911 Mambo Orchestra open WDCB Live Jazz Concert Series July 25
WDCB 90.9 FM, Chicago's home for jazz returns with its free Thursday Evening WDCB LIVE Jazz Concert Series beginning with Grammy-nominated Angel Melendez and The 911 Mambo Orchestra Thursday, July 25 at the MAC's Lakeside Pavilion.
Grammy-nominated Angel Melendez and the 20-piece 911 Mambo Orchestra, complete with vocalists and multiple rows of brass, will perform an array Latin music from the modern tropical sounds of today to the most traditional hard-hitting Mambo of the '50s. The Chicago Tribune says, "Whenever a big band can produce great blasts of sound without sacrificing technical detail, audiences are in for a thrilling ride."
The rest of the WDCB LIVE Jazz Concert Series includes "Chicago Plays the Stones" featuring Ronnie Baker Brooks and Billy Branch (Aug. 1) and The Joey DeFrancesco Trio with special guest Bobby Broom (Aug.8). All concerts are free and will begin at 7:30 p.m.
The WDCB LIVE Jazz Concert Series is part of the 2019 Lakeside Pavilion Free Summer Series featuring concerts through Aug. 9. All pops and jazz concerts take place rain or shine. In the case of inclement weather, concerts will be moved indoors to the Belushi Performance Hall and notice will be posted on the MAC's website, AtTheMAC.org.
"COD's Got Talent" student talent competition winners will be opening for each concert at 7:15 p.m.
Attendees are welcome to bring a blanket or lawn chair. Seating begins at 6 p.m. prior to any evening event. Holding of space for latecomers or groups is not permitted. Concessions available for purchase on site include burgers, Chicago style hot dogs, desserts, coffee, popcorn, ice cream, wine, beer and soda. Outside alcohol is not permitted onto the property. Neither are coolers, kegs, umbrellas, tents and skateboards. Vendors for the 2019 Lakeside Pavilion Free Outdoor Summer Series include Parkers' Restaurant and Bar, Weber Grill Restaurant, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Heavenly Hot Dogs and more. The Cleve Carney Art Gallery is currently featuring an exhibition of work by legendary Mexican printmaker José Guadalupe Posada June 17-Sept. 13 that is viewable beginning one hour prior to Lakeside Pavilion events, as well as during regular summer gallery hours.
