Cosley Zoo's plastic-free challenge is in full swing

As a key component of its mission, Cosley Zoo in Wheatonis always undertaking new conservation efforts that will make a difference for animals and the planet.

Cosley Zoo is taking on another initiative as a sponsor of the 2019 Plastic Free EcoChallenge.

The Plastic Free EcoChallenge is a 31-day international challenge to raise awareness about the problem with plastic; to provide opportunities to learn about reducing and refusing plastics where possible; and to encourage each of us to create small changes that have a huge impact.

This challenge is being organized by the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium and the Calgary Zoo in conjunction with the Northwest Earth Institute.

So far this month, the zoo has said "no" to single-use plastics by using reusable cups, lunch containers and recycled hundreds of pieces of plastic.

Zoo Director Sue Wahlgren Cosley has her reusable cup with her so she can say "no" to single-use plastics.

Who's ready to help kick single-use plastics to the curb?

Small changes can lead to a positive impact in the environment, so unite with Cosley Zoo as they work to be part of the movement to reduce plastic waste and become a conscious consumer.

Visit plasticfree.ecochallenge.org to learn more about how to get started or for suggested actions to take, like: join a cleanup effort, swap the snacks, plant a garden, etc.

Cosley Zoo is at 1356 N. Gary Ave. in Wheaton.
