Six Elk Grove students receive Frank J. Czarnik Scholarship

The Frank J. Czarnik Scholarship Fund board announced that six, $1,000 scholarships have been awarded to student residents of Elk Grove in recognition of their community leadership and service:

• James Bayus, Elk Grove High School, attending University of Illinois Urbana Champaign

• Nicole Brashears, Conant High School, attending Loyola University

• Stevie Burton, Elk Grove High School, attending Illinois State University

• Jacob Glorioso, Conant High School, attending University of Illinois Urbana Champaign

• Holly Olson, Elk Grove High School, attending Bradley University

Over the past 12 years, these college scholarships have benefitted a total of 55 high school seniors in the Elk Grove Village community.

The scholarships are primarily funded by an annual golf outing held at Fox Run Golf Links, 333 Plum Grove Road, in Elk Grove Village. The day features 18 holes in a four-man scramble format, with prizes including a hole-in-one contest where participants can win a car, compliments of Woody Buick-GMC in Naperville.

Dinner, awards and raffles follow, with a grand prize of a catered BBQ party for up to 30 guests.

This year's outing will be Friday, Aug. 9, with noon check-in and a 1 p.m. shotgun start. The entrance contribution is $90 per person, which includes golf fees, power cart and dinner.

Frank Czarnik's family and other community leaders initiated the awards, inspired by Frank's lifetime commitment to community, to recognize high school seniors who have also been active in their community and given their time to others.

Frank, an early resident of the village, believed in the power of getting youth involved early in both physical activities and in citizenship as part of building a lifestyle commitment to health and community. He was a Jaycees member, served as Elk Grove Village Park District commissioner and park board president.

He was proud to have led the acquisition of community athletic fields, and helped build the Elk Grove Pavilion as a flexible facility that supports both fitness activities and the fine arts, as well as a place to congregate.
