Elmhurst History Museum's Maker Monday celebrates moon landing

Families looking for affordable and engaging activities this summer can make their way to the Elmhurst History Museum on select Mondays for free programming designed for elementary-age children.

Museum Maker Mondays will take place on select dates throughout the summer from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Elmhurst History Museum, 120 E. Park Ave. in Elmhurst.

Kids and their parent or caregivers can explore the museum on a traditionally-closed day, play games, complete a craft, and picnic on the grounds weather permitting.

Each Museum Maker Monday program will feature a different theme:

July 22: First Moon Landing 50th Anniversary - This Museum Maker Monday, we'll recall the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing in 1969. Kids will create their own rocket ships and learn about the historic mission.

Aug. 12: Music of the '60s - 50 years ago in August of 1969, young people converged on the small town of Woodstock, NY for what became one of the most memorable music events of a generation. Kids will listen to music from the 1960s and make their own instruments to play along.

These drop-in programs take place in the Elmhurst History Museum's Education Center. Crafts are available while supplies last. Children must be accompanied by an adult, and no registration is required.
