Home of the Sparrow to host annual Oktoberfest golf outing Sept. 16

Help raise life-changing funds for homeless women and children in our community at Home of the Sparrow's 14th annual Oktoberfest Charity Golf Outing on Monday, Sept. 16, at the private Bull Valley Golf Club in Woodstock.

Register by Friday, Aug. 16, for a chance to win prizes. First prize is a free registration for the golf outing ($175 value). Second prize is a new golf bag or golf shoes from Bull Valley Golf Club pro shop (value up to $150). Third prize is two complimentary tickets to the Chicago Cubs vs. Seattle Mariners at 1:20 p.m. Sept. 2 in section 204, row 16, seats 5 and 6 ($100 value).

Home of the Sparrow provides a transitional shelter, affordable housing, case management, counseling, educational programs and supportive services to hundreds of homeless women and children in McHenry County and Northern Illinois each year.

Check-in starts at 9 a.m., with a shotgun start (scramble format) at 10:30 a.m. Everyone is welcome including singles ($175) or foursomes ($660).

The day includes golf with cart, lunch, dinner, raffle, silent auction and awards. Enjoy beer tastings from Crystal Lake Brewing Co., Scorched Earth Brewing Co. in Algonquin, and ShadowView Brewing in Woodstock. There will be fun contests, including straightest drive, longest putt, closest to pin, and hole in one.

The winning foursome takes home the traveling trophy for the entire year!

Home of the Sparrow opened its first shelter on Dec. 15, 1986. In February 1987, Home of the Sparrow Inc. became a nonprofit organization which, over the last 30 years, has remained dynamic in assessing and responding to the needs of homeless women and children in McHenry County and northern Illinois.

The number of individuals served at Home of the Sparrow grows each year in keeping with increased needs. In the 2018 fiscal year, Home of the Sparrow served 451 women and children.
