Treasure Hunting Tips at July Green Drinks

Treasure hunting! Join Green Drinks at 7pm on Wednesday, July 24th, upstairs at McGonigal's Pub, 105 S. Cook St., Barrington. This month, Murco Recycling and The Building Exchange share tales of treasures found and given new life. Per Build Reuse, one average house demo equals the average waste created by one American in their entire life! In addition, deconstruction and reuse provides 7 jobs for every 1 in demolition (https://bmra.org/).

Murco Recycling, located in La Grange Park, is dedicated to the salvage and reuse of residential building materials. Family owned and operated since 1989, Murco's website defines their mission: "champion the recycling efforts for the good of all involved: buyers, sellers and the environment. Sellers can swiftly earn money by redistributing goods they no longer need, buyers can score incredible finds for pennies on the dollar, and we get to ensure that thousands of tons of high-end materials find new homes." For more information, go to http://murcorecycling.com/.

The Building Exchange was established in 2009 as a nonprofit social enterprise that repurposes building materials while providing job training for people with barriers to employment. Their 25,000 square foot retail warehouse in Chicago is open to the general public and offers a variety of affordable reclaimed building materials. Workshops guide makers on sustainable salvaged material reuse, while RX Made, an in-house fabrication team, creates beautiful repurposed furniture.
