School supplies needed for Hanover Township Back Pack Distribution

Hanover Township is gearing up for its annual Backpack Distribution and is once again asking the community for donations of school supplies and backpacks for township youth returning to school in the fall.

Most needed items include: Backpacks, notebooks, loose leaf paper, pencils, markers, crayons, scissors, flash drives, blue pens and glue sticks. Donations of gift cards to use for the purchasing of school supply items are appreciated as well as any donation of supplies.

Last year, more than 1,218 backpacks filled with school supplies were given to township youth.

Supplies can be dropped off at the following Township locations: Town Hall, 250 S. Route 59, in Bartlett; Hanover Township Senior Center, 240 S. Route 59, in Bartlett; Hanover Township Astor Avenue Community Center, 7431 Astor Ave., in Hanover Park; and Hanover Township Izaak Walton Center, 899 Jay St., in Elgin.

This year's Backpack Distribution starts at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, and will be at Hanover Township Astor Avenue Community Center, 7431 Astor Ave., in Hanover Park, while supplies last. Township youth can receive a free backpack filled with school supplies. Proof of residency is required with a limit of one backpack per child.
