New Friends of the Highwood Library Group Presents Library Summer Book Sale

The Highwood Public Library will open its doors to an extravagant Friends of the Library Summer Book Sale. Readers should get ready to shop the giant selection of books, audiobooks, CDs, and DVDs on Saturday, July 27 and Sunday, July 28, from 10am until 5pm inside the Library at 102 Highwood Avenue.

The Friends of the Highwood Public Library is a newly formed fundraising group who works to raise funds on behalf of the Library and the community. The Summer Book Sale is their first fundraiser, and proceeds will help sustain library programs and pay for program supplies for adults and children.

"The Highwood Public Library is an invaluable resource. It's a gathering place, an education center, and provides services that enable our residents to both engage with and give back to the community, said Friends of the Highwood Public Library Board President Ken Robertson. "The Friends board is committed to helping the Library achieve its mission by expanding the available funding through donations and events like the Book Sale."

"The Friends are excited to host their first fundraiser for the Library," said Highwood Public Library Director, Carmen Patlan. "The money raised will benefit literacy programs that are critical for the adults and children who need them. We hope that the entire community will come out to support the Library and see all of the new programs and services we offer, like our Robotics program for youth."

Innumerable books have been collected over the year. The sale will be offering paperbacks and hardcovers, including many current best sellers, fiction, and non-fiction for adults and children. The sale caters to all interests and will also offer CDs and DVDs. Prices will start as low as 50 cents.

The Friends of the Highwood Public Library is a non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring that the public has equal access to information, both as a constitutional right and as the best way to sustain a democratic way of life. The Friends support quality library services through advocacy, fundraising, and volunteering in ways that promote the policies and long-range plan of the library.

The Friends group is looking for new members and board members. If you are interested in joining the Friends group, please reach out to any staff member at the Library for more information. Membership dues start at $10.
