Garden Club of Inverness Annual Spring Luncheon and Scholarship Presentation May 23

The Garden Club of Inverness (GCI) hosted their annual Spring Luncheon at the Inverness Golf Club, Thursday, May 23, 2019. The theme this year was "The Monarch Butterfly." The tables were beautifully decorated with member-made floral arrangements, butterfly cookies, and Milkweed seed packets to take home for planting. The packets will aid pollinator gardens for Butterflies, and Bees.

A primary goal of GCI is to give back to the community. This year, GCI was honored to offer $8,000 in scholarships to four very deserving students, planning to major in environmentally-related fields, which was made possible because of the successful fundraiser held in December.

The four recipients, along with their prospective schools and studies of interest are:

• Alexander Horvath (not pictured), Barrington High School graduate; presently in school at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, majoring in Forest Ecology.

• Tristan Ottenfeld, Palatine High School graduate; attending Carthage College, majoring in Environmental Science.

• Nicole Rahfaldt, Barrington High School graduate; attending Purdue University, majoring in Landscape Architecture.

• Christopher Rydberg, Fremd High School graduate; attending University of Illinois, majoring in Agricultural and Biological Systems Engineering.

Applicants must reside in the High School District 211 or in the Barrington High School area.

The Garden Club of Inverness has been fortunate to grant many scholarships over the years through its fundraising efforts and looks forward to continuing its support of such outstanding students. Applications are considered in the early part of the year, and more information regarding this process is available at: www.gardenclubofinverness.com.

Congratulations to the 2019 Garden Club of Inverness' scholarship recipients!
