Wheeling Township Properties to be Reassessed This Year

North Suburban properties in Cook County are reassessed every three years by the Cook County Assessor. Wheeling Township is included in this year's Triennial Reassessment. Township taxpayers should have received notification in their mailboxes with new assessments in early July. Upon receiving the notification, residents will have 30 days to appeal their reassessments to the Cook County Assessor; the deadline date is located at the bottom of the notice.

The Wheeling Township Assessor's Office is available to assist property owners with assessment appeals to the Cook County Assessor's Office and subsequently to the Cook County Board of Review. The Assessor's Office will additionally help residents with applications for exemptions, including homeowner, senior, senior freeze, disabled veterans and disabled persons.

"Property tax appeals can be an overwhelming and time-consuming process," said Wheeling Township Assessor, Jerry Sadler. "Wheeling Township is proud to offer assistance and guidance to our community during this period for appeals."

Once completed, appeals are reviewed, and decisions are made by the Cook County Assessor's Office. Decision letters and emails will be sent to the appellant after the close of appeals, which can take up to three months. If an appeal is successful and the assessed value is reduced, it will be reflected on the 2019 second installment tax bill due in July of 2020. Additional services offered by the Township include:

-Assistance filing real estate tax refunds/certificates of error

-Provide property index numbers (PIN) for local municipal variance applications

-Information and assistance with use of relevant Cook County real estate internet sites (Cook County Assessor, Cook County Board of Review, Cook County Treasurer, Cook County Recorder of Deeds and Cook County Clerk)

-Assistance with name and address changes for the Cook County Treasurer's Office and property location changes for the Cook County Assessor's Office

-Processing residential and commercial building permits and Certificates of Occupancy with the Cook County Assessor for entry on tax rolls

-Updating and maintaining current Property Sales Data

-Free notarization for property tax-related forms and provide forms for division and consolidation applications
