Trail closures slated at Bliss Woods in Sugar Grove

The Virgil Gilman Trail at Bliss Woods Forest Preserve in Sugar Grove will be temporary closed to allow for bridge work.

The Forest Preserve District will be pouring concrete abutments and setting the bridge back in place. There will be no connection to the bridge until work is done, within the preserve. Signs to notify trail users of the temporary closure will be placed on both ends of the project.

The Virgil Gilman Trail will be closed west of the Route 56 crossing to Bliss Road, within the preserve. The highway crossing at the Route 56 bridge will remain open.

This work will start Monday, July 8. The trail is expected to reopen on Saturday, July 20, barring any weather-related delays.

Signs to notify users of the temporary Virgil Gilman Trail closure will be placed on both ends of the project.

The Forest Preserve District asks trail users to be mindful of the temporary closures and aware of the potential for machinery and construction in the area.
