Greg Hall to lead Batavia Methodist men; men to donate prayer shawl to ailing brother

Batavia resident Greg Hall was installed Saturday, June 15, as president of United Methodist Men at Batavia United Methodist Church.

Hall was installed by Orland Park resident Jim Simmons, vice president of the Aurora District United Methodist Men.

The installation took place at a prayer breakfast and worship service hosted by Batavia UMC men.

Herb John of Aurora, president of the Aurora District United Methodist Men, presided at the breakfast and service.

A highlight of the service was dedication of a prayer shawl to be delivered to Bill Franz of Villa Park, a Methodist experiencing health issues. John said women at Wesley United Methodist Church in Aurora handmade the shawl for Franz, Aurora District hunger advocate.

Greg Hall, newly installed president of Batavia UMC United Methodist Men, chronicled the history of Batavia UMC. He said the church, founded in 1837, is planning to expand its 8 N. Batavia Ave. site.

John announced the United Methodist Northern Illinois Conference annual spiritual congress will be held Sept. 13-15 at Conference Point Center at Williams Bay, Wis. Keynote speakers will be Rev. Norval Brown of Chicago, former pastor at Fourth Street UMC in Aurora; and Rev. Mark Lubbock, Baton Rouge, La.

The Rev. Cynthia Anderson, senior pastor at Batavia United Methodist Church, and Joshua Bailey-Green, associate pastor, celebrated communion to close the service.
