Elgin church begins 'Proverbial Opera' series June 16

On Sunday, June 16, the Rev. Rick Carlson will offer a nine-part summer message series, "Proverbial Opera," at First United Methodist Church, 216 E. Highland Ave. in Elgin. It is an exploration of King Solomon's wisdom illustrated by arias from the world's great operas.

Each week, a performer will sing a selection from the works of Puccini, Mozart, Offenbach and others.

The series is presented in collaboration with Solange Sior and Fox Valley Lyrical Productions (formerly Soiree Lyrique).

This week, the message "A Fair Garland" will feature the aria "O mio babbino caro" from the comic opera "Gianni Schicchi" by Giacomo Puccini, especially selected for Father's Day.

Come to the new Saturday contemporary service "The River" at 5 p.m. Saturdays or the traditional service at 9 a.m. Sundays. Free parking is available in the parking deck across the street. For details, visit www.fumcelgin.org or call (847) 741-0038.
