Arlington Heights Garden Walk & Unique Boutique June 23rd

The Arlington Heights Garden Club will hold its annual Garden Walk & Unique Boutique from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 23. Six outstanding gardens will be showcased, as well as the beautiful and award-winning grounds of the Arlington Heights Historical Museum.

The gardens on the walk show the creativity of the owners and the joy they receive from developing a garden that fits their lifestyle. Terry Mainiero's garden has a large pond and waterfall that is frequented by ducks and other birds. Mary DiCarlo has artificial turf in her backyard to assist with her dog issues. The turf is so realistic that it has brown "artificial thatch."

These and other gardens will exhibit sculptures, pergolas, hummingbird havens, fountain gardens, herb gardens, and a wide assortment of perennial and annual plants. From the budding gardener to the more seasoned ones, new ideas to enhance the landscaping of a home can be found on the walk.

This year The Olson Therapy Courtyard at the Lutheran Home will also be open for viewing. The vast garden designed for those participating in physical therapy is tucked in the center of the complex.

The Unique Boutique on the grounds of the Arlington Heights Historical Museum is free and open to the public. The 35 vendors will have handcrafted arts, crafts and garden décor for sale. There is also a raffle with many fabulous prizes.

At the boutique there will be an Ask-A-Gardener booth manned by Master Gardeners from the University of Illinois Extension Service, an Ask the Arborist booth from The Davey Tree Expert Company, and tree and perennial information from the village of Arlington Heights.

The Arlington Heights Library will have a mobile book check out and provide plants from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Live music will be performed from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Lola's Pizza Palace, Zingabrew and the Historical Museum Pop Shop will sell refreshments from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Garden Walk tickets can be purchased for $15 the day of the event, or $10 in advance at all Arlington Heights Village Bank & Trust, at the Arlington Heights Farmers Market each Saturday in June, and online at ahgardenclub.com. Proceeds from this fundraiser benefit scholarship, conservation and community activities.
