"Character Development Through Dialogue" will be the theme of a critique night offered by the American Christian Fiction Writers Chicago Chapter from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, June 14, at the Schaumburg Library, 130 S. Roselle Road, Schaumburg.

The group will convene in the Program Room on the library's first floor. Open to writers of all genres, this critique night will help writers give voice and personality to their characters through dialogue, according to American Christian Fiction Writers-Chicago President Susan Miura. Nonmembers are welcome to participate.

"Whether you're a novice or an award-winning author, you'll come away with practical tips for using dialogue to show the heart, quirks, emotions, dreams, fears and frustrations of your characters," Miura said.

"We'll start with a brief overview, followed by a critique session in which fellow writers will provide valuable insight and commentary on each other's dialogue skills."

Participants should bring five copies of two double-spaced pages of their manuscript. The selection should include dialogue and have the lines numbered, if possible.

American Christian Fiction Writers-Chicago is a local chapter of the national American Christian Fiction Writers and welcomes nonmembers, who may attend two meetings for free before deciding whether to join the group.

The chapter meets the second Friday of each month at the Schaumburg Library and offers writing workshops, speakers and critique sessions.
