St. Philip the Apostle students earn gold, silver and bronze awards at state science fair

St. Philip the Apostle School congratulates the eighth-graders who placed at the Illinois Junior Academy of Science State Fair on May 4 at Southern Illinois University.

All seven students brought home either a gold, silver or bronze award.

Three students earned a Gold Award, including Miabella D. and Giuliana O. for their exhibit, "Heart Rate Versus Caffeine," and Philip S. for his exhibit, "The Physics of Cheating in Baseball."

Two students brought home Silver Awards, including Adrian S. for his exhibit "What Type of Onion Makes Your Eyes Tear Up Most?" and Erica S. for her exhibit "Think Fast!"

The team of Sofia A. and Lauren L. brought home a Bronze Award for their physics exhibit "Don't Drag Me Down."

The students joined hundreds of other junior high and high school students around the state to compete in 19 different science categories ranging from aerospace science to zoology.

St. Philip the Apostle School, 1233 W. Holtz Ave., serves preschool through eighth-grade students from Addison and the surrounding communities. The school offers a family-friendly atmosphere that nurtures the Catholic faith, academic excellence and lifelong service. Its goal is to equip each of its students with the tools she or he needs to become leaders in faith and knowledge in the global community.
