Algonquin Lions donate $2,000 to local food pantry

The Algonquin Lions Club recently donated proceeds from the Algonquin Lions' 5K Running With the Lions to the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Interfaith Food Pantry. The club, the town's oldest service organization, is celebrating 80 years of service to the community.

The 5K Running With the Lions Committee chairman Vince Daniello, along with fellow Lions Steve Collinsworth, Bob Cummins, Jerry Glogowski, Kevin Hofer, Chris Moore and Adriaan Vrugt, presented a $2,000 check to Sal Maggio, food pantry director. The club has donated $7,000 to the food pantry in the last year.

The club held its third annual Running With the Lions 5K Run/Walk on Thursday, Nov. 22, at Life Time Fitness in Algonquin. Every $20 raised at the event helped feed a family in the local community.

Since 1917, Lions clubs have offered people the opportunity to give something back to their communities. From involving members in projects as local as cleaning up an area park or as far-reaching as helping bring sight to the blind, Lions clubs have always embraced those committed to building a brighter future for their community.

Your local Lions Club has been serving the Algonquin community since 1939 with a special emphasis on children, the hearing and visually impaired, and people who are food challenged. Therefore, your Algonquin Lions Club has focused on and works to continue to financially support these causes. The programs are continually changing to meet needs of the community and its motto has never wavered: "We Serve."
