The Land Conservancy to host tree and shrub Identification class June 20

The Land Conservancy of McHenry County is providing an opportunity to learn about McHenry County's trees and shrubs at its "Tree and Shrub Identification" class with restoration ecologist Melissa Grycan on Thursday, June 20. It will be from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Hennen Conservation Area, 4622 Dean St. in Woodstock.

Attendees will learn how to identify common native trees and shrubs based on their buds, bark and leaves.

The class will begin indoors with basic identification techniques, then participants will head outdoors to study the trees and shrubs at Hennen Conservation Area.

Participants are encouraged to dress for the weather.

The Land Conservancy of McHenry County is a member-based private nonprofit organization dedicated to the health and preservation of natural and agricultural land in McHenry County. Since 1991, The Land Conservancy has helped protect over 2,500 acres of McHenry County's prairies, wetlands and woodlands by working with private landowners, communities and other partners.

They do this by accepting donated conservation easements and direct acquisition of property (through purchase or donation). Its mission is to preserve natural, agricultural and scenic land forever, in and around McHenry County, by working with private landowners, communities and other like-minded partners.
