Survey Shows More Illinois Manufacturers Oppose the Legalization of Recreational Marijuana Than Support

SCHAUMBURG, IL - As the Pritzker Administration continues to push for the legalization of recreational marijuana, a majority of Illinois manufacturers oppose the legislation according to a survey conducted by the Technology & Manufacturing Association (TMA).

"The General Assembly is working extremely hard to get their recreational marijuana bill passed by the end of session but while they are doing that, they are forgetting to address the major implications it will cause to the business and manufacturing communities," said TMA President Steve Rauschenberger. "This will have major ramifications when it comes to worker's compensation and how companies will address internal company policy. There is still a lot that needs to be considered before manufacturers come close to supporting the legislation."

TMA surveys their members monthly on important issues facing the industry to better advocate on their behalf. 110 TMA members responded to the survey regarding their opinion on the legalization of recreational marijuana. 50% of the Illinois manufacturers opposed, 13% were undecided, and 37% supported the legalization legislation.

"Since the bill was announced, we have received questions almost daily from our members on how the legislation would affect their business and employees," said Dennis LaComb, TMA's Vice President of Government Relations. "Our members are concerned about the recreational-use carrying over into the workplace which is why we have encouraged our members to re-evaulate their company policy if the legislation is passed."

This and previous TMA survey results can be found at TMANews.com.
