Administrator at The Grove of Evanston Awarded

IHCA Staff & Specialty Award for 2019

Springfield, IL - The winners of the 2019 Illinois Health Care Association (IHCA) Staff & Specialty Awards were announced last week during National Skilled Nursing Care Week® (NSNCW), formerly National Nursing Home Week. The Staff & Specialty Awards, part of IHCA's Excellence Awards Program, honor the hard work and dedication of long term care center staff, as well as the specialty programming put into place for the benefit of residents.

Shilpi Chona, administrator at The Grove of Evanston in Evanston, IL was named the 2019 IHCA Administrator of the Year.

With just 5 years in long term care under her belt, Shilpi Chona has made great strides in her career. As administrator of The Grove of Evanston she has proven to have strong leadership qualities and an outstanding drive to continue learning and growing as a long term care professional. She is focused on community outreach, taking part in the Evanston Chamber of Commerce and working with several other organizations, and has put several systems and processes in place to help her facility in its day-to-day operations. Shilpi promotes teamwork by modeling good behavior and leading by example, and always makes sure to seek out her team members and interact with them as they work.

"Throughout my time here at The Grove of Evanston, I have seen Shilpi grow from the role of admissions director, to assistant administrator and finally administrator," said Etan Bleichman, regional director for Legacy Healthcare. "There is no denying why or how Shilpi has gotten to the position she is in now. The confidence she has in the staff and the care provided here at the facility is what makes her such a great leader and administrator. She works hard to fight for the needs of our building. Any facility would be so lucky to have such a dedicated administrator."

"Staff at long term care centers are devoted to providing the best care possible for the residents in their care each and every day," said IHCA President Rhonda Luther. "This year's award winners have shown that they have what it takes to truly make a difference in the lives of their residents they deserve to be recognized for their efforts."

"We are so proud to be able to honor these outstanding long term care professionals and to have them involved in our association. We applaud their dedication and thank them for a job well done," added Executive Director Matt Hartman.

More than 50 nominations were submitted in 2019 from long term care centers around the state. Award recipients are nominated by their peers; winners are chosen by the IHCA Awards Task Force.

The Illinois Health Care Association is a non-profit organization comprised of more than 530 licensed and certified long term care facilities and programs throughout the state. Its members are comprised of proprietary and non-proprietary facilities which represent skilled, intermediate, developmentally disabled, skilled pediatric, assisted living and sheltered levels of care.
