Willow Lake Estates to host Memorial Day service May 25

Residents and guests of Willow Lake Estates in Elgin will celebrate this Memorial Day weekend by hosting their fifth annual service at the community's picturesque Memorial Island.

The memorial at Willow Lake Estates is the only memorial in Elgin that honors both veterans as well as first responders.

The annual event, which is open to the public, will be attended by a number of local dignitaries, including Elgin Mayor Dave Kaptain.

The service will consist of a rifle salute, a performance of taps by members of the Elgin American Legion Post 57, an Honor Guard provided by American veterans, and music by local quartet the Fox Valley Harmonizers.

The Willow Lake Estates Memorial Service will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 25, at Memorial Island, 161 W. River Road in Elgin.

The event will be attended by Willow Lake Estates residents and guests, Elgin Police Chief Anna Lalley, Elgin Fire Chief Dave Schmidt, Elgin Chaplain Al Keating, South Elgin Police Chief Jerry Krawczyk, South Elgin Fire Chief Steve Wascher, Kane County Sheriff Ron Hain, and Elgin Township Supervisor Franklin Ramirez.
