Sedgebrook Welcomes New Finance Director

"His accounting and finance background set him above other candidates, and his warm and compassionate nature was something that appealed to us right away," said Dan Harrington, executive director of Sedgebrook in Lincolnshire, describing the senior living community's new finance director, Alex Cappello. The resident of Hoffman Estates will be replacing Barbara Smolenski who is retiring in July. "Barbara did amazing work over her eight years here, and we're happy to have someone with Alex's talent to continue leading our finance department," said Harrington.

Cappello most recently worked with Exelon. "I have a lot of retail and manufacturing experience," he said. "Now, at Sedgebrook, my motivation will be the ability to use my background to directly help people." He added that he looks forward to having face-to-face encounters with the residents, as well as partnering with the other executive leadership at Sedgebrook. "I have a strong background in finance processes and analytics. I hope to use my experiences and best practices in the industry to enhance the wonderful job the finance team here has done and I look forward to partnering with the executive team members."

During his first week on the job, Cappello observed, "It's obvious that people really care about each other as a community…the staff as well as with the residents. This is so different from the corporate world environment, and I'm excited to be involved."
