Harriet Gifford Elementary to host Color Walk May 21

On Tuesday, May 21, the Parent Involvement Committee at Harriet Gifford Elementary in Elgin will host its seventh annual Color Day fundraiser with kindergarten to second grade at 11:45 a.m. and third to sixth grade at 12:45 p.m.

The school is located in a quiet neighborhood near Larkin High School and Abbott Middle School. Harriet Gifford is a Title One school with 80 percent of the students at or below state poverty.

Harriet Gifford has a dedicated small group of parents who make up the Parent Involvement Committee who saw a need to improve our students school days with opportunities and fun. Seven years ago, we started a Color Walk FUNdraiser.

All students and staff walk in the color walk. Students collect pledges from neighbors, businesses, family, friends, etc. Each student who collects $25 or more will get a color walk T-shirt, glasses and go through the color stations run by parents and volunteers. Everyone walks the mile and receives water and popcorn after their walk.

Students design each year's color walk T-shirt by submitting designs and having staff vote on the winner! Harriet Gifford will hold its 7th annual color walk this Tuesday, May 21 (with a rain date of Wednesday, May 22).

PIC rewards students in each grade level with the highest pledges raised with a prize and with the top 3 classes with the most pledges a pizza party or ice cream party. Students and staff look forward to this event every year. This year we have added silly stringing the principal!

All proceeds go back to the school to help fund other events. This event is PIC's main fundraiser to provide assemblies, field trips, new playground equipment, technology and a variety of other events for our students and families. Visit www.u-46.org/HarrietGifford.
