New computer technology scholarship offered at MCC

McHenry County College students who want to pursue a career in computer science or network security can apply for a new scholarship established by Leading IT of Woodstock.

The LeadingIT Technology Scholarship, established with the Friends of MCC Foundation, will award $250 to one student pursuing a career in computer science or network security for the fall and spring semesters.

This is the first scholarship of its kind at MCC that specifically benefits students pursuing these career fields.

This scholarship opportunity was created with LeadingIT's core values in mind: community, success, health and responsiveness.

LeadingIT founder and CEO Stephen Taylor said he believes in supporting young people to fuel their passions and talents.

He said that some of those greatest opportunities are in the form of internships; to give students a chance to continue their education while "getting their feet wet" in the industry.

"The opportunity is there," Taylor said. "Young people can work for us or other organizations and other businesses. Keeping the talent in the community is important."
