Mundelein teen becomes Eagle Scout

Sam Roberts, 15, of Mundelein, was recognized at a May 11 ceremony for earning the prestigious Eagle Scout rank.

A two-time Boy Scout of the Year recipient, Roberts is a member of Troop 198 out of St. Andrews, and is a freshman at Mundelein High School.

His Eagle project, which was approved after an extensive review process, will help further ensure the safety and security of students, faculty and staff at Carl Sandburg Middle School.

Roberts was joined at the ceremony by family, friends, fellow Boy Scouts and troop leaders. He also was recognized for his achievement by Lake County Detachment 801 of the Marine Corps League, Rabbi Ari Margolis of Congregation Or Shalom in Vernon Hills, Pastor Mark Selbo of St. Andrews and Andy Henrikson, superintendent of District 75. He received written congratulations from Senator Tammy Duckworth, Congressman Brad Schneider, Mundelein Mayor Steve Lentz, Lake County Treasurer Holly Kim and Microsoft founder Bill Gates.
