After Hours Film Society to show 'Transit' May 20

The After Hours Film Society will show the 2018 drama "Transit" at 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 20, at Classic Cinemas Tivoli Theatre, 5021 Highland Ave. in Downers Grove. Tickets are $10 or $6 for film society members.

The film, directed by Christian Petzold, is in German and French with English subtitles. It stars Franz Rogowski, Paula Beer, Lilien Batman, Robald Kukulies and Godehard Giese.

It is based on Anna Segher's 1942 novel of the same name. In an attempt to flee Nazi-occupied France, Georg assumes the identity of a dead author but soon finds himself stuck in Marseilles, where he falls in love with Maria, a young woman searching for her missing husband. It was selected to compete for the Golden Bear in the main competition section at the 68th Berlin International Film Festival.

Complimentary refreshments and group discussion will follow the film.

Established in 1989, the After Hours Film Society screens foreign, classic and specialty films on the second and fourth Monday of the month at the Tivoli Theatre. Each presentation is followed by a group discussion led by educators and film professionals.
