Kaneland Arts Initiative to host auditions for 'Mamma Mia!' May 17-18

Auditions for the Kaneland Arts Initiative's summer production of "Mamma Mia!" will be held on Friday and Saturday, May 17-18.

It is open to anyone 14 years (must be entering high school in the fall) through adult.

There are three parts to the audition:

• Singing - an accompanist is provided. Please bring sheet music in your appropriate key.

• Reading - no materials are needed.

• Movement - wear comfortable clothes (no flip-flops, please).

You will need to be on time to the audition and expect to stay until dismissed.

Auditions take place at Kaneland High School, 47W326 Keslinger Road, Maple Park. Enter through door 32 on the northeast side of the building.

Sign up to attend only one of the auditions: May 17 beginning at 6 p.m. until dismissed; and May 18 beginning at 9 a.m. until dismissed.

In the event that callbacks are needed, they will occur on May 18 after 1 p.m. Callbacks do not mean that you are not cast in the show, but that they need to see more from a specific actor than they did at auditions.

The characters include:

• Sophie Sheridan: Born and raised on the island. Female, age 20 to 25, with a vocal range from E5 to F#3.

• Donna Sheridan: Sophie's mother. Female, age 40 to 50, with a vocal range from A5 to E3.

• Sam Carmichael: Might be Sophie's father. Male, age 40 to 50, with a vocal range from Ab4 to D3

• Bill Austin: Might be Sophie's father. Male, age 40 to 50, with a vocal range from F#4 to Bb2

• Harry Bright: Might be Sophie's father. Male, age 40 to 50, with a vocal range from F#4 to C#3

• Sky: Sophie's fiancé. Male, age 20 to 30, with a vocal range from D5 to Eb3

• Tanya: Former Dynamo. Female, age 40 to 50, with a vocal range from E5 to E3

• Rosie: Former Dynamo. Female, 40 to 50, with a vocal range from D5 to E3.

• Lisa: Sophie's friend. Female, age 20 to 25, with a vocal range from Db5 to G3

• Ali: Sophie's friend. Female, age 20 to 25, with a vocal range from D5 to G3

• Pepper: Barman at Taverna. Male, age 20 to 25, with a vocal range from F5 to A4

• Eddie: Helps Sky with water sports. Male, age 20 to 25.

• Chorus consisting the Islanders, who work at Donna's, wedding guests.

If you are cast, plan on attending the first company meeting and read-through at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, in the high school auditorium.

Performances are July 12-14, 19-21. Friday and Saturday performances are at 7 p.m. and Sunday performances at 2 p.m. Tuition for actors is $50. Rehearsals and performances take place at Kaneland High School.
