Barrington chamber awards $4,500 to students

The Barrington Area Chamber of Commerce awarded $4,500 in scholarships to eight local high school students during its Women's Biz Net Scholarship Awards Luncheon Thursday, April 25, at Biltmore Country Club in North Barrington.

"The Barrington Area Chamber of Commerce Lauren Brown Memorial Scholarship is an investment in our local youth," said Barrington Area Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Suzanne Corr.

"The scholarships are awarded to students who will be attending universities, community colleges, vocational or trade school programs as an investment in their future careers."

The scholarship is named after Lauren Brown, a young woman who worked for the chamber for several years and lost her battle with cancer at the age of 29.

Dr. Brian Harris, superintendent of Barrington District 220 schools, was the keynote speaker at the awards luncheon.

This year's winners of the 2019 Barrington Area Chamber of Commerce Lauren Brown Memorial Scholarship are: Miah Cramer (planning to study psychology/Spanish at St. Louis University); Campbell Henry (planning to study marketing/business analytics at Indiana University); Kristina Lymperis (planning to study engineering); Patrick Mantatsky (planning to study marketing at University of Illinois); Alejandro Reyther (planning to study international business at Michigan State University); Ashley Rocco (planning to study biomedical engineering at Southern Methodist University); Jeffrey Rosauer (planning to study physics/education at Loyola Chicago); and Zachary Rowley (planning to study engineering).

"Lauren Brown Memorial Scholarships are funded by chamber members through many chamber events, such as our Barrington Area Chamber of Commerce Golf Classic, our Annual Dinner and Silent Auction and our Women's Biz activities," Corr said.

The Barrington Area Chamber of Commerce Women's Biz Net Girls' Night Out event was held March 21 at McGonigal's Pub, and the Barrington Area Chamber of Commerce Golf Classic will be held Monday, July 22, at The Club at Wynstone in North Barrington.
