Position Opening: Ela Township Highway Commissioner

Ela Township is accepting applications for the position of Highway Commissioner. To qualify for the position of Highway Commissioner, the applicant must reside in Ela Township. The Highway Commissioner position is a part-time elected position. This position is to replace the current Commissioner, who is retiring mid-term, and his replacement must be elected to the position in 2021. Preference will be given to applicants who have experience in highway and drainage construction, heavy equipment operation, and snow removal. Some of the responsibilities of the Highway Commissioner include but are not limited to: managing the care of Township roads; keeping roads in good repair and free of obstructions including snow; managing and directing Highway Department employees and staff; annually inspecting Township roads; planning, estimating and overseeing road work and similar projects; preparing bid specifications and estimates for paving/road repair; record keeping to include an inventory of roads, equipment, and tools; attending Township meetings and events; preparing monthly reports to the Township Board and other agencies; preparing an annual budget and maintaining financial records.
