St. Charles Police Department to offer Youth Police Academy

The St. Charles Police Department will host its seventh annual Youth Police Academy this summer.

The class will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 10-14. It is open to kids ages 13-16.

The academy is intended to showcase careers in police work, and also will encourage team work and grow self-esteem through different activities.

Several topics will be covered, including steps to becoming a police officer, personal safety, Internet safety, bullying, crime scene evidence collection and more. T

ours of the police and fire departments will be included.

Thanks to funding from the St. Charles Youth Commission, participants will be certified in CPR by the St. Charles Fire Department free of charge.

The class also will spend a day at the Kane County Judicial Center for classes led by state's attorneys and judges.

The class will be limited to the first 25 registrants who are residents of St. Charles, and/or attend a St. Charles Unit District 303 school.

Preference will be given to residents within the city limits.

Registration packets can be picked up at the St. Charles Police Department, both high schools or Thompson and Wredling middle schools.

Registration deadline is June 6.
