Registration for Food Truck Rally and Sunset 5K to open May 1 with 'Cheesy Teaser'

Early bird registration for College of DuPage's 2019 Food Truck Rally and Sunset 5K Presented by DuPage Medical Group will open on Wednesday, May 1, with the "Cheesy Teaser" kick-off featuring the popular Toasty Cheese and Cupcakes for Courage food trucks.

Food truck fare will be available for sale from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. near the north entrance of the Student Resource Center on the college's Glen Ellyn campus, 425 Fawell Blvd.

The Early Bird 5K registration fee will be $15 for the first 500 participants and there will be special prices for staff, faculty, and alumni thereafter.

The ninth annual Food Truck Rally and Sunset 5K will take place on Saturday, Oct. 5, from 2 to 8 p.m., with a VIP hour from 1 to 2 p.m.

The event will feature more than 15 local food trucks and other activities for the entire family, including a Touch-A-Truck and the popular 100-Yard Youth Dash.

Race registration is not required to attend the Food Truck Rally. Those who indicate their attendance on the Food Truck Rally and Sunset 5K Facebook event page are entered into a weekly drawing for Food Truck Rally vouchers.

The 100-Yard Youth Dash registration fee will always be $5, while the registration fee for 5K participants ages 5-12 and 60 and over will always be $15.

On Oct. 5, the 100-Yard Youth Dash will begin at 3 p.m. on the College of DuPage football field and is for children ages 4 to 9, with three divisions being contested - ages 4 to 5, 6 to 7 and 8 to 9. The 5K will begin at 4:30 p.m. at the same location.

5K participants can compete in new team categories: Fastest Team, Most Team Spirit and Largest Team. There is no maximum number of team members for any category.

The top overall male, top overall female and the "middle of the pack" winner in the 5K will each receive a $100 Visa gift card.

The fastest girls and boys in each age division of the 100-Yard Youth Dash will be awarded $20 Visa gift cards.

Proceeds from the event will benefit scholarships for COD students. Each of the 15 high school districts served by COD has a dedicated scholarship for their graduates who choose to attend the College. Participants who register for the 5K or 100-Yard Youth Dash can designate their race fees to the high school district of their choice.

"The Food Truck Rally and Sunset 5K is a fun and engaging event that empowers participants to support high school graduates from their own communities in achieving a quality education at COD without exorbitant loans," said Community Relations Coordinator Ami Chambers.
